LAST TIME OUT: GW split a New York City doubleheader vs. Fordham and Wagner last Saturday. The Buff and Blue fell to the Rams in the opener, 15-7, before coming from behind for a 12-11 victory over the Seahawks.
In the win, Nick Schroeder scored three times, including the go-ahead tally with 52 seconds remaining, and Viktor Jovanovic posted three goals and a career-high six ejections drawn.
THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE: An MAWPC All-Conference Second Team pick in the spring, Jovanovic landed his first career conference Player of the Week award for his play in Saturday's doubleheader, recording four goals and 10 ejections drawn across the two games.
For the season, Jovanovic has a team-leading 38 ejections drawn, plus 18 goals, four assists and seven steals. He's sparked the Buff and Blue offense by drawing multiple ejections in 11 of the 16 games.
LEVAI'S LEGACY: Andras Levai recorded his 200th career assist in the win over Wagner. The graduate student from Budapest, Hungary, ranks second in program history in helpers behind only Atakan Destici's 238.
An AWPC All-America selection in 2019, Levai also ranks among the program's all-time top five in points (469, fourth), goals (269, fourth) and steals (180, fifth) with a chance to move up in all three categories as he comes down the home stretch of his decorated career.
SCOUTING THE BISON: Bucknell (6-8, 1-3 MAWPC) returns to the pool after back-to-back off weekends. The Bison edged Wagner in their most recent game for their first conference victory.
GW relied on defense to score an 8-5 win over Bucknell in the first meeting on Sept. 26 at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa. Luca Castorina was excellent in net, tallying 10 saves and a career-high five steals. Eight other student-athletes recorded steals in the Buff and Blue's lock-down defensive effort with Levai, Henry Maas and DJ Davis nabbing two apiece.
UP NEXT: GW has a break from competition next weekend before hosting Navy on Friday, Oct. 29, and visiting Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, Oct. 31.
