Cross Country Back in Action at JMU Invitational

WASHINGTON - GW cross country runs back into competition on Friday when they travel down to New Market, Va., to take part in the JMU Invitational. The women's event will begin at 5:00 p.m., while the men's competition will get underway at 5:45 p.m..
THE COMPETITION: This will be the first time that the Buff & Blue will race in the annual event, which takes place on the New Market Battlefield Historic Park. GW is expected to compete against several teams including the host James Madison, Howard, Washington & Lee, Richmond and VCU.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials put forth an iconic effort to start the season, winning both the men's and women's 5k duals at Mount St. Mary's with the GW women posting the program's first-ever perfect score in the process. Individually, first-year Olivia Syftestad earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors after finishing third in her event with a time of 18:56.93, while Margaret Coogan earned the individual win for the first time in her cross country career with a time of 18:33.78.
REGIONAL RANKINGS SUCCESS: After the women's dominant effort at the Mount St. Mary's duals, the Colonials currently sit at sixth in the Regional Coaches' Rankings, tying the programs' ranking high watermark. This is the third time in program history that GW women's cross country has occupied the sixth spot in the Regional Coaches' Rankings, with both other times coming last season.
