Five Colonials register shots vs. Quakers

PHILADELPHIA - The GW women's soccer team wasn't able to overcome a hat trick from Penn's Mia Shenk on Sunday, falling to the Quakers by a score of 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• 19th Minute: Shenk started the scoring for Penn with a shot that found the center of the net, assisted by Lauren Teuschl.

• 20th Minute: Less than a minute after her opening goal, Shenk scored her second of the game with a right-footed strike. Abbey Duncan was credited with the assist on the goal that put Penn up 2-0.

• 39th Minute: Mia Shenk completed her hat trick when she found the back of the net with a right-footed chip that just beat Tamaki Machi. Both Lucy Kellogg and Peyton Raun were awarded assists on the third goal.

• 56th Minute: Janae Stewart extended the Quakers' lead to 4-0 with a strong shot that found the top center of the goal.

NOTEWORTHY

• The Colonials put forward a strong second-half effort with six shots over the final 45 minutes. Kelly Amador and Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky led GW's offense with two shots a piece.

• Senior Erica Lorenzana and first-year Ainsley Lumpe both saw their first minutes in goal and made their first saves of the season during the contest.

• Penn led the match in shots, 14-7, and shots on goal, 8-4. Each side finished with three corner opportunities.

• The Colonials will officially ring in A-10 play when they head down to Richmond to face VCU on Sunday, Sept. 19th at 2 p.m.
