Women's Soccer Visits Maryland, Hosts American

Annual Kickin' It at the Vern Scheduled for Sunday
WASHINGTON - GW women's soccer is set to make the quick trip to College Park on Thursday, taking on Maryland in a 7 p.m. kick. The Colonials will then return to the Mount Vernon Soccer Field on Sunday for Kickin' It at the Vern vs. American at 1 p.m. Free food will be available for GW students on Sunday while supplies last.
ABOUT LAST WEEK: GW battled UNCG to a draw, 1-1, last Thursday before falling to #3 Virginia, 6-1, on Sunday. Sammy Neyman scored for the second time in as many games with her marker against the Spartans, while Maria Pareja notched her first goal of the year in Charlottesville, and first tally scored against UVA all season.
TOP NOTCH IN NET: Despite Sunday's final score, Tamaki Machi held her own in net, stopping 11 shots on goal from the Cavaliers. Machi is now tops in the A-10 and 10th nationally with 28 saves, while her 7.0 saves per game and 385 minutes in net also pace the conference and rank 11th and 27th in the nation, respectively.
MARIA, MARIA: With her goal on Sunday, Maria Pareja has already matched her output from the spring season with three points in four games (1G, 1A). Pareja is aiming to rejoin the All-Conference squad after she was named to the A-10 Second Team in 2019 and All-Rookie Team as a first-year in 2018. For her career, Pareja has now scored nine goals and accumulated 24 points in 55 caps.
ABOUT MARYLAND: The Terps sit at 3-1-0 on the season following a 3-1 loss in their last outing to Navy. Maryland was off to its best start since 2017, having won its first three games, including victories over A-10 foes Richmond and George Mason. GW is 7-10-6 all-time against UMD with the last three matches ending in draws.
ABOUT AMERICAN: American heads across town on Sunday with a 2-2 record following wins at Longwood and Delaware State last week. Brook Steel was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after scoring both goals in the victory over the Hornets. The Eagles were 0-4-1 in the spring season and have lost three straight to the Buff & Blue. GW is 14-4-1 all-time against AU.
