NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A record 274 GW student-athletes have been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2020-21 academic year, the league announced Monday.
The impressive haul of academic accolades comes after a standout spring in which GW Athletics matched a department record by combining to post a GPA of 3.50 amid the continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. 26 teams posted at least a 3.0 combined GPA for the semester with 257 individuals earning a 3.5 or better mark, including 49 perfect 4.0s. 378 student-athletes notched a 3.0+ GPA.Â
Men's tennis led the way in the spring with a 3.91 team GPA, followed by gymnastics with a 3.82. Women's soccer earned a 3.74, with golf (3.71) and women's cross country and track just behind (3.67).
To be selected for the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in a conference-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the academic year. A total of 3,849 student-athletes from the A-10's 14 schools were honored Monday, topping last year's previous record 3,761.
