Women's Swimming & Diving Claims Two A-10 Medals

Buff & Blue sit fourth in team standings
GENEVA, Ohio - Erin McCarthy and Jamie Doak secured bronze medals Thursday to lead GW women's swimming and diving at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
McCarthy touched third in the 500 free with a personal-best time of 4:51.14 that ranks No. 3 on the program's all-time top 10, while Doak, diving at George Mason's Aquatic and Fitness Center, enjoyed a successful collegiate debut by placing third on the 3-meter board with a finals score of 282.40.
With 154 points, GW sits fourth in the team standings with two days left to go. Richmond (247.5), Davidson (237) and Duquesne (173.5) hold down the top three spots.
HIGHLIGHTS
- McCarthy earned her first career medal to lead three Buff and Blue scorers in the 500 free. Marissa Martin (personal-best 4:54.40) and Andrea Moussier (4:56.13) took 10th and 11th, respectively, with strong swims in the B final.
- Doak established a lofty personal best on 3-meter with her prelims score of 284.60. GW was well-represented in the B final with Caitlin Inall (242.15, 11th), Carolina Stocchi (237.05, 13th) and Gabriella Arendes (218.90, 14th) also scoring on the opening day of diving.
- Grace Olivardia and Marlee Rickert narrowly missed out on the podium in the 50 free. Olivardia was fourth in 23.31 seconds with the first-year Rickert just five hundredths of a second behind in a personal-best time of 23.36 that ranks eighth on the program's all-time top 10 list. Becca Brown (:23.63) took 13th in the event.
- Stine Omdahl Petersen (13th, 2:05.62) and Ann Juneau (14th, 2:06.25) were GW's scorers in the 200 IM.
- To close out the day, Rickert, Omdahl Petersen, Brown and Olivardia combined on a sixth-place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:33.84.
