Buff & Blue groups head to JMU & Navy
George Washington swimming and diving returns to action this weekend with a pair of competitions.
The Buff and Blue divers head to James Madison's Duke Dog Diving Invitational on Saturday before the swimmers take on Navy in head-to-head competition on Sunday.
DUKE DOG DIVING INVITE: GW's divers will be joined at Savage Natatorium in Harrisonburg, Va., by representatives from George Mason, Richmond and Towson, in addition to the host Dukes.
Last weekend, the group opened its season at George Mason with junior Spencer Bystrom sweeping both boards, including a career-best score of 296.70 on 3-meter. Sophomore Caitlin Inall paced the Buff and Blue women in both events with a 3-meter score of 236.48 and a 1-meter score of 222.38.
Across the nation, this is the final weekend of competition to set the field for the upcoming NCAA qualifying meets. The Zone A Championships are slated to be held March 11-13 in Greensboro, N.C.
NAVY DUAL MEET: GW makes the trip to Annapolis, Md., on Sunday to face Navy in its first dual meet of the season. It will be a 1 p.m. start at Lejeune Hall.
The swimmers make their return to the pool since opening the season at Virginia's Cavalier Invitational on Feb. 5-7. At that meet, the Colonials put their best foot forward vs. top competition, highlighted by a dynamite debut from first-year Karol Mlynarczyk.
Mlynarczyk won twice on the weekend and cracked the program's all-time top 10 in four different events, including the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 46.97 seconds that entering this week remained ranked among the top 25 in the nation for the season.
First-year Marlee Rickert also made a strong first impression, leading the women's squad in four individual events with all-time top 10 times in the 50 free and 100 back.
GW squared off against Navy last season as part of a quad-meet at Lejeune Hall on Oct. 18, 2019, with the Midshipmen coming out on top.
These same two teams are slated to face-off again next week in a two-day meet in the same pool, aiming to post season-best times for NCAA qualification.
