Colonials put four in double figures in 59-44 triumph
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball scored the first 10 points on Thursday evening inside the Smith Center, setting the tone for a third-straight dominant victory in a 59-44 trouncing of Davidson.
The Colonials' ferocious defense held the Wildcats without a point for the first 6:09 of the game and to just 12 total points in the first half. GW limited Davidson to 34% shooting for the game and has given up an average of just 42.7 points per game during its three-game winning streak.
Offensively, the Buff & Blue saw a season-high four reach double figures, headlined by reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Ali Brigham, who put in a game-high 14 points to go along with five boards.
As has become custom, do-it-all point guard Jasmine Whitney flirted with a triple-double, posting a line of 11 points, team-high eight rebounds and seven assists. Redshirt juniors Neila Luma and Gabby Nikitinaite chipped in 10 apiece to accent the balanced attack.
GW shot an efficient 24-of-49 from the floor (49%), its third straight game above 45%. The Colonials also knocked down 4-of-9 from deep, highlighted by a pair from Nikitinaite. The Buff & Blue also dominated the boards, 35-24, and held a 30-18 edge in paint points.
After bursting out to a 10-0 lead, GW never allowed the Wildcats within closer than five. A layup as time expired in the first half from Brigham was the exclamation point that sent the Buff & Blue into the locker room up 25-12.
Nikitinaite canned her two long balls in quick order late in the third quarter, extending the lead to 17. GW pushed the advantage to as many as 20 while cruising to the win.
Due to Saturday's postponement, the red-hot Colonials are now scheduled for a bit of a break with only one game remaining on the regular season schedule, in 10 days on Feb. 28 vs. George Mason. Stay tuned to GWsports.com for any schedule changes.
