THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT: GW finally found its stroke from beyond the arc on Friday, knocking down nine triples and eclipsing the previous season-high of five. The nine long balls were the most in nearly two years (10 at UMass, 2/20/19) and were more than the last three games combined (8).
Individually, junior Maddie Loder set a career-high by making all four of her attempts. Loder entered Friday having made just four 3s all season.
BACK WITH A VENGEANCE: The Colonials welcomed back redshirt sophomore Mayowa Taiwo on Friday after she missed the previous five games with an ankle injury. Taiwo was inserted right into the starting lineup and played a season-high 25 minutes while tying season-bests in points (8) and rebounds (8). GW is 2-0 with Taiwo in the starting lineup in A-10 play, when she is averaging 6.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg, nearly matching her rookie year statistics that earned her a spot on the A-10 All-Rookie team.
A LOOK AT THE BONNIES: St. Bonaventure enters Sunday riding high after three straight wins this week - back-to-back on Sunday and Monday against Davidson and on Friday at George Mason. The Bonnies are averaging 71.3 ppg over their last three games after scoring an average of 57.6 ppg in their first 12 contests.
SBU is led by reigning A-10 Player of the Week Asianae Johnson, who is averaging 14.1 ppg and scored 18 and 20 points, respectively, in the two wins over Davidson. Johnson is eighth in the league in scoring and third in field goal percentage (47.4%). Tori Harris (10.9 ppg) also averages double digits for the Bonnies and had 16 points in the win over Mason on Friday.
BICENTENNIAL SPOTLIGHT: Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennial
Elisa Aguilar served as the catalyst for the Colonials from 1997-2000 as one of the most dominant point guards to ever don the Buff & Blue. Aguilar was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams in 1998 and 2000, was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year in 1998 after averaging 17.2 points per game. Aguilar was then a two-time First Team All-Conference performer in 1998-99 and 1999-00, finishing her career third in program history, averaging 15.7 ppg. She is also GW's all-time leading free throw shooter by percentage at .843, is fourth in career made 3-pointers and 12th in career assists.
