The NCAA released Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) today, highlighting teams across the country who have excelled in the classroom.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I athletics teams across the country. It provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
In the latest academic year accounted for (2018-19), GW's baseball, women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, golf, gymnastics, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and men's water polo earned the maximum score of 1,000.
Last week, GW's women's cross country, golf, gymnastics, softball, men's tennis and women's track & field teams were honored for having multi-year APR scores (2015-19) in the top ten percent of their sport nationwide.
"Every day we see the extraordinary lengths our student-athletes go to ensure their academic success at our prestigious university," said Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel last week. "These APR scores are reflective of that, and are illustrative of our values that our students, coaches and staff embody to support high achievement in the classroom and positive displays of discipline and excellence in all that they do."
