Colonials set two more school records in the process
LEXINGTON, Va. - A sterling indoor season continued for GW indoor track & field this weekend at the VMI Winter Relays with six individual event wins and two more school records.
The Colonials have now broken 10 school records in three meets this winter, with first-year Miles Grant breaking his own mark in a victory in the long jump at 6.92m to kick off Saturday. Shortly thereafter, senior Suzanne Dannheim set the new standard in the women's mile with a victorious time of 4:52.79.
Dannheim led a clean sweep for the Colonials in the event with juniors Kathryn Nohilly and Margaret Coogan finishing second and third, respectively.
Other winners included junior Olivia Horgan in her debut at the women's 5000m on Friday night. Newcomers then owned the show on Saturday with junior Ameena Benselloum (women's 800m), first-year Ryan Fowkes (men's mile) and graduate student Wesley Robinson (men's 3000m) coming out on top in their respective events.
GW will aim to continue its success at the same venue next weekend as part of the VMI Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday. A select group will also compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational next weekend as the final tune-up before the A-10 Championship begins on Feb. 29.
