Colonials aim to hold on to Hoehn Cup Title
SERVING FIRST: The No. 14 George Washington men's squash team will look to hold onto its Hoehn Cup (B-Division) title for the third straight year when it kicks off play at the College Squash Association (CSA) National Championships against No. 11 Western Ontario on Friday at 1 p.m. at Harvard.
LAST TIME OUT: In their regular season finale, the Buff and Blue fell to No. 5 Rochester, 7-2, on Feb. 16. Despite the loss, the Colonials picked up a victory at the top spot on the ladder, with Salim Khan outlasting Ashley Davies in a marathon five-game battle, 5-11, 11-4, 11-9, 8-11, 18-16. Rohan Bagli gave GW its second victory of the day at No. 9.
NATIONALS REWIND: GW took home the Hoehn Cup for the second straight year last season, topping Drexel in the finals, 6-3. Going into CSA Team Nationals, the Colonials were 2-5 against the B-Division field. GW went on to prove their prowess by defeating two of those teams in championship play, edging Western Ontario (5-4) in the quarterfinals and St. Lawrence (7-2) in the semifinal round.
BRACKET BREAKDOWN: The Hoehn Cup is comprised of teams ranked No. 9-16 in the latest CSA National Rankings. Also in the bracket along with GW and Western Ontario are No. 9 Dartmouth, No. 10 Columbia, No. 12 Cornell, No. 13 Franklin and Marshall, No. 15 Brown and No. 16 MIT. GW is 1-2 against the field this season with its lone win coming over Columbia.
