Colonials notch fourth straight victory
WASHINGTON – In its return to the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington women's soccer team notched its fourth straight victory with a 2-1 overtime win against the visiting Fordham Rams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 39th Minute – After a back-and-forth battle for most of the half, Fordham was able to break the deadlock with a goal from Crea Durante-Baker. FOR 1, GW 0
• 53rd Minute – GW came out hot in the second half with four early chances before finding the back of the net. Sammy Neyman sent the ball from the far right side of the field to Megan McCormick, who was able to head it in to even the score. GW 1, FOR 1
• 95th Minute – For the third time this season, GW converted from the corner to score the game-winning goal. Neyman took the corner kick and positioned the ball to the far left of the net, giving Madi Coyne the opportunity to head it just beyond the reach of the Rams' keeper. GW 2, FOR 1
NOTEWORTHY
• Sammy Neyman registered a season-high pair of helpers against Fordham. Her four assists on the season rank tied for first on the team along with fellow Miami transfer, Rachel Sorkenn.
• Defenders accounted for both of GW's goals against Fordham. McCormick's goal marks her career-high third of the season while Coyne's tally is her second.
• The Colonials held a dominating 30-10 advantage in shots over the Rams and 7-2 margin in corner kicks. Through nine games, GW is outshooting its opponents 180-86.
• GW now boasts a 3-0-2 record at the GW Soccer Field this season. Before topping the Rams, the Colonials edged Liberty (3-2) and Bucknell (2-1), and played Maryland (1-1) and Towson (2-2) to a draw.
• GW last opened Atlantic 10 action with back-to-back victories in 2017.
• With today's win, the Colonials take a slight 8-7-4 advantage in the all-time series with Fordham.

GW will look to extend its conference opening win streak when it heads back out on the road on Sunday to face Rhode Island at 1 p.m.
