Colonials kick off three-game homestand Saturday
After four straight road games to start the season, the Colonials begin a three-game homestand vs. the Bears. Join the Buff and Blue for their annual Kickin' It at the Vern celebration, which features a cookout with games and free food for the first 200 fans.
LAST TIME OUT: Max Holdsworth keyed GW's 3-0 win at Liberty on Tuesday night, tallying a goal and two assists.
The senior from England converted a penalty kick and also set up scores by Sandro Weber and Colin Anderson.
GW's defense did its part with its second clean sheet of the season. First-year keeper Justin Grady made five saves to stymy the Flames.
MAX EFFORT: With four points vs. Liberty, Holdsworth set a career high and matched his total from last fall in his first season with the Colonials.
Holdsworth's six assists since the start of the 2018 season are the most for any Colonial in that span. The goal Tuesday was his first in Buff and Blue and first collegiate score since he scored vs. Army on Nov. 4, 2017 while at American.
For his collegiate career, Holdsworth has 25 points via six goals and 13 assists over 55 appearances.
COLIN CONNECTS: Anderson, a senior captain from Maryland, picked a fine time to score his first collegiate goal.
Just 28 seconds after his successful penalty kick vs. Liberty, Holdsworth sent a long-range shot off the crossbar, and Anderson was there to knock home the rebound to make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute.
A regular on GW's backline, Anderson netted his first score in his 52nd appearance for the Buff and Blue. He's tallied four assists in his career, as well.
SCOUTING BROWN: The Bears made their season debut last Friday, falling 2-1 to Hartford. They started their road trip to the nation's capital on Thursday afternoon with a 1-0 victory at Howard.
GW and Brown met for the first time last season in Providence, R.I., with the Bears taking a 2-1 win in overtime. Joshua Yurasits scored the goal for the Colonials in that one.
UP NEXT: GW hosts UMBC on the Vern on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and then opens up Atlantic 10 play on their home field on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. with a visit from defending conference champion Rhode Island.
