Men's Soccer Takes Win at Liberty

Max Holdsworth tallied a goal and two assists in victory
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Max Holdsworth recorded a goal and two assists to lead GW men's soccer to a 3-0 win over Liberty on Tuesday night at Osborne Stadium.
The senior from England converted a penalty kick and also set up goals by Sandro Weber and Colin Anderson to spark the Colonials to their first victory of the season.
GW's defense delivered, as well, posting its second clean sheet of the season. First-year keeper Justin Grady made five saves to keep the Flames off the scoreboard.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 21st Minute: Holdsworth's cross from the right side found a sliding Weber in front to put GW on top. (GW 1, LU 0)
- 62nd Minute: Drini Redzepi drew a penalty kick after getting taken down on a counterattack, and Holdsworth converted by tucking a drive under the crossbar. (GW 2, LU 0)
- 62nd Minute: Just 28 seconds later, the Colonials scored again. Holdsworth's shot found the crossbar, and Anderson swooped in to put home the rebound. (GW 3, LU 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- Holdsworth netted his first goal in Buff and Blue. His four points Tuesday equaled his total from 2018 in his first season as a Colonial.
- It was the first goal of Anderson's career. The senior from Maryland now has six career points.
- Weber, a graduate student from Germany, also scored for the first time as a Colonial.
- Grady made three stops in the opening half and then a pair over the final 45 minutes in his first collegiate victory between the pipes.
- GW made the most of its opportunities, scoring on three of its five shots on goal. Liberty had an 11-10 edge in total shots.
UP NEXT: GW debuts on the Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday with a 3 p.m. kickoff vs. Brown. The annual Kickin' It at the Vern celebration will feature a cookout with games and free food for the first 200 fans.
