Dorsey to represent U.S. in the men’s double sculls
WASHINGTON – George Washington men's rowing oarsman and rising junior Cole Dorsey has been selected to compete as a member of the U.S. Rowing Under 23 National Team at this month's World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Sarasota, Fla.
The annual World Rowing U-23 Championships will run from July 24-28 at Nathan Benderson Park.
Dorsey will represent the U.S. in the men's double sculls with Mark Couwenhoven following their victory at trials last week. Crossing the line in a time of 6:36.38, Dorsey and Couwenhoven beat out crews from Georgia Tech, Crescent Boat Club and Seattle Scullers.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to represent the United States in the men's U23 heavyweight double at worlds," said Dorsey. "It's a unique opportunity that I could not have earned without the love and support of my teammates, coaches and family. I would like to thank my Green Racing Project coaches, Steve Whelpley and Grace Hollowell, our GW coaching staff Mark Davis, Steve McCarthy and David Lincoln, as well as my doubles partner Mark Couwenhoven. The small success we had at trials III is the embodiment of the team we had around us. From our fellow Green Racing Project athletes, to our coaches, to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, nothing would have been possible without them. I'm very excited to see how fast Mark and I can go at Worlds and even more excited to get back to the George Washington men's rowing team in the fall."
The Rowayton, Conn., native rowed in GW's 3V8 throughout the 2019 spring season, culminating in a final national ranking of 15th at last month's Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship.
