Nelson breaks school record; Brown and Dannheim finish in top five
AMHERST, Mass. - For the second time in as many days at the Atlantic 10 Championship, GW outdoor track & field saw a school record fall as junior Jared Nelson set the new high-water mark in the men's triple jump.
Nelson reset the program record for the third time this season, doing so with a distance of 13.40 meters, just over a foot longer than his previous best. The distance netted him eighth place overall and a podium finish in the event, the first field event point in school history.
Two members of the women's team, senior Halley Brown and junior Suzanne Dannheim, reached the podium as well. Brown finished third in the 1500m, just two seconds off her own school record. Dannheim shaved over 30 seconds off her previous best in the 5000m and reached the podium for the second time on the weekend, finishing fifth.
Dannheim led a trio of PRs in the 5000m with senior Madison Yerke and sophomore Olivia Horgan also doing so and finishing 12th and 19th, respectively. First-year Mariah Moro capped off her initial campaign with a PR in the 1500m.
On the men's side, junior Paul Housey finished 14th in the 1500m, finishing in under 4:00 for the first time in his career. Senior Connor James finished his career with a PR in the 5000m.
