Colonials await IRA Selection Show on Monday
Official Results
WORCESTER, Mass. – The George Washington men's rowing team completed a successful day at the 75th annual Eastern Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinasigamond.
All four boats advanced out of the morning heats into the Petite Finals for the third straight season. In the Varsity 8, the Colonials finished 12th. The 2V8 finished in 11th, the 3V8 took 12th and the 4V8 placed 12th.
"We had a solid showing by all of our boats," said head coach Mark Davis. "Everybody finished top-12, which is nice. Now we'll wait for tomorrow for the selection show, and hopefully, we'll be competing out in Sacramento in two weeks at IRAs. If we do go, we have to work on getting faster these next few weeks."
V8
Heat: 4th of 6 (6:21.907)
Petite Final: 5th of 6 (6:34.924)
Final Place: 11th
Coach Davis on the V8: "The Varsity 8 was seeded 11th coming in and they were able to hold onto that seed by finishing fourth in their heat this morning with a pretty strong race, and then in the final they finished fifth. It was a good race, they raced the speed that they've shown this second half of the season. There was a very strong headwind all day, so the conditions weren't the best, but they managed it pretty well. They are hopefully looking forward to racing at IRAs."
2V8
Heat: 4th of 5 (6:41.121)
Petite Final: 5th of 6 (6:45.370)
Final Place: 11th
Coach Davis on the 2V8: "The 2V8 was seeded 13th coming in and they ended up finishing 11th overall, so they were able to move up two spots. They were able to beat Wisconsin in their heat in the morning, which was nice, and then had a solid showing in their final as well finishing ahead of Penn."
3V8
Heat: 4th of 5 (7:14.062)
Petite Final: 6th of 6 (7:36.719)
Final Place: 12th
4V8
Heat: 6th of 6 (7:03.586)
Petite Final: 5th of 5 (7:16.628)
Final Place: 12th
Coach Davis on the 3V8 and 4V8: "The 3V8 was seeded 12thcoming in and finished up at 12th. They struggled a bit in their final with the gusts, which is frustrating. It was similar for the 4V8, seeded 12th and finishing 12th as well. We're happy we were able to hold our spots and not move down, we would've like to move up, but the headwind kept us from doing that today."
