Lacrosse to Wrap Regular Season on Saturday

Colonials to face Massachusetts in regular season finale
OPENING DRAW: The George Washington lacrosse team will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Amherst to face the Massachusetts Minutewomen, who are undefeated in conference action, on Saturday at 11:45 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: In their penultimate game of the regular season, the Colonials fell to George Mason, 15-10, on Sunday afternoon. Despite staying neck-and-neck with the rival Patriots through the first half, George Mason pulled away in the second half with five straight goals to establish a lead that it would never relinquish. The Colonials finished the day with an advantage in ground balls (22-16) and caused turnovers (7-3) while the Patriots held a 36-35 edge in shots and 15-12 advantage off the draw.
JUNIOR JOLT: The Colonials' junior class, which accounts for 10 of the 29 student-athletes on the team, has scored 91 of GW's 168 goals this season. Katie Quinn ranks tied for first on the squad with her 27 strikes in 2019, while fellow juniors Morgan McDonnell and Aidan Cage have found the back of the net 19 and 18 times, respectively. Christine Weber has contributed 16 tallies of her own, a nine-goal jump from her total last season. Also adding to GW's offensive effort from the junior class is captain Caroline Kiernan (5), Kali Benvenuto (4), Caitlin Concannon (1) and Posie Paoletta (1).
SHARP SHOOTER: Tori Hampton ranks tied for first on the squad with Katie Quinn with 27 goals this season. The Marlton, N.J., native is averaging an impressive 4.06 shots per game and 3.37 shots on goal while riding a six-game goal streak with 13 strikes. The first-year has been held scoreless in just four of the Colonials' 16 games, while her shot-on-goal percentage (.831) is the highest of all players with 40 or more shots and higher than the team's .757 shot-on-goal percentage.
ABOUT MASSACHUSETTS: Kaitlyn Cerasi's overtime game-winner alongside a career-high 17 saves by keeper Lauren Hiller gave UMass a 13-12 victory over A-10 rival Richmond on Sunday. The win secured the 2019 Atlantic 10 Regular Season title for the Minutewomen, who boast a 13-3 record and a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play.
Despite having not dropped a game in A-10 action, UMass has won three of its last four games by just one goal, two of those contests going to overtime. The Minutewomen opened April with a 16-15 OT victory over Duquesne before downing St. Bonaventure, 19-8, on the road. Its last two matchups were decided by just one goal, as UMass edged La Salle, 14-13, on Friday before besting Richmond in overtime on Sunday.
A-10 TOURNAMENT AWAITS: The Colonials will need a combined win at Massachusetts and a La Salle win over Duquesne on Saturday to secure a bid to the 2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Tournament will take place at George Mason between April 25-28.
