Colonials' 2V8 completes perfect day on the water

WASHINGTON -- The George Washington men's rowing team wrapped up the 31st GW Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
After being edged in a couple close races on Friday, the Colonials bounced back with faster times on the second day of racing.
The Varsity 8 went 1-1 on Saturday, cruising past Holy Cross (5:43.30-5:49.30) in their morning heat before falling in a close battle at the finish to FIT (5:35.40-5:39.10) in the afternoon.
After being edged by a near .50 seconds to Drexel on Friday, the 2V8 completed a perfect day on the water on Saturday. In the closest race of the day, the Colonials posted a time of 5:39.70 to beat out Holy Cross (5:40.10). In their afternoon heat, the 2V8 clocked in at 5:48.10 to top FIT (5:59.70).
The 3V8 wrapped up the second day of racing with a pair of second place finishes against Drexel (6:01.10) and Navy (5:58.10).
The Midshipmen claimed the Oliver T. Carr Bowl with a total of 24 points, while Drexel secured the Gilbert H. Hood Trophy with a combined 39 points between the men's and women's squads.
The Colonials head to Boston next Saturday to go head-to-head with Boston University and Dartmouth.
