WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball hosts St. Bonaventure in the penultimate home game of the regular season on Senior Day Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon with the game streamed on ESPN+. The pregame ceremony honoring Mei-Lyn Bautista, Kelsi Mahoney, Anna Savino and manager Elizabeth Placheril is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:45 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW is coming off one of its best performances of the season, defeating UMass, 66-59, on Wednesday. The Colonials led wire-to-wire, leading by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter. The Colonials tied or set new season-bests in six different categories against the Minutewomen, including field goal makes (tie, 24), assists (tie, 21), most points in a half (44), most points in a quarter (31), fewest points allowed in a half (12), and fewest points allowed in a quarter (4).
FINDING HER FOOTING: Kayla Mokwuah continued her tremendous play in recent weeks by putting up at least 15 points for the third straight game on Wednesday at Massachusetts. She also added a team-season-high 16 rebounds and swatted four shots. Mokwuah has played double-digit minutes in each of the last six games, earned via a renewed effort and intensity in practice. She's reached double figures in four straight games, a stretch in which she is averaging 14.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg. Her season-long scoring average has increased from 4.8 ppg to 6.4 as a result.
SHE'S A FLAMETHROWER: Kelsi Mahoney was en fuego on Wednesday at UMass, hitting 7-of-12 from beyond the arc, surpassing her previous career highs of five made 3-pointers and 17 points. Mahoney is now averaging 17.0 ppg in her last two games and is 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) from beyond the arc in those games. The seven made triples moved Mahoney into ninth all-time in program history with 139 career makes. The Colonials are now 5-2 in league play when she hits multiple 3s in a game.
HISTORY VS. ST. BONAVENTURE: GW and St. Bonaventure renew acquaintances for their lone meeting of the season, the 24th consecutive year the two programs have met just once in the regular season. The Colonials and Bonnies have not met multiple times in the same campaign since 1994-95. The Buff & Blue have won consecutive games against St. Bonaventure by nearly identical scores, 63-57 two years ago, and 63-56 in Olean last year. GW is 19-1 all-time in the Smith Center when hosting St. Bonaventure (lone loss was 2011).
A LOOK AT THE BONNIES: St. Bonaventure is coming off a 62-61 buzzer-beating win over Rhode Island on Thursday night to move to 5-8 on the league. The Bonnies are led by Mckenna Maycock's 12.2 ppg. Maycock is joined in double figures by Asianae Johnson at 10.2 ppg and Deja Francis at 10.0 ppg. Three of St. Bonaventure's five conference triumphs have come away from Olean with wins at George Mason, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
