Stine Omdahl Petersen won twice for the Colonials on Saturday
WASHINGTON - Fresh off an appearance racing vs. world-class competition at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships, Stine Omdahl Petersen earned a pair of individual wins and contributed to a first-place relay to help George Washington women's swimming and diving close its fall schedule with a 173-123 over Atlantic 10 foe Richmond at Smith Center Pool.
The first-year from Norway wasn't slowed down by a quick turnaround after arriving back in the District from Atlanta late Friday night. She touched first in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events -- with times of 1:05.64 and 2:23.73, respectively -- and also teamed with Andrea Ho, Meghan Burton and Rebecca Smolcic on a win in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.30.
The Colonials flexed their depth to beat the Spiders, highlighted by 1-2-3-4 sweeps in both breaststroke races and wins in both relays. The teams will see each other again at the A-10 Championships, which run Feb. 19-22 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Omdahl Petersen led GW's breaststroke dominance. She was followed by teammates Ann Juneau, Courtney Sicinski and Elisabeth Vogel in both races.
- Burton also pulled double duty after competing at the U.S. Open. The junior from Virginia picked up an individual win vs. Richmond in the 100 fly in 56.86 seconds. She was part of both relay wins and also took third in the 100 back.
- The Colonials showcased their distance strength with a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,000 free. Andrea Moussier (10:29.76) claimed victory with Tali Lemcofff and Erin McCarthy close behind. The sophomore from Mexico also led the Colonials in the 500 free with a runner-up finish in 5:08.22.
- Smolcic claimed the 50 free in 24.03 seconds and also anchored both winning relays. The sophomore from New Zealand was fourth in the 100 free, an event won by teammate Grace Olivardia (:52.70).
- Jackie Torrez led the Colonials in three events, finishing runner-up in the 200 free (1:53.89), 200 fly (2:14.78) and 200 IM (2:07.73).
- GW put together a strong diving effort, particularly on the 1-meter board. The Colonials produced three scorers there, all with season-best scores, in Rachel Dickinson (second, 231.90), Gabriella Arendes (third, 230.25) and Caitlin Inall (fourth, 229.20). Dickinson, a junior from Florida, also paced the Buff and Blue on 3-meter in third place (season-high 241.88).
UP NEXT: GW heads into winter break before beginning final preparations for championship season in the new year. In their first meet back, the Colonials will welcome District foe Georgetown on Jan. 18 for Senior Day at Smith Center Pool.
