Potter leads Colonials with 22 points in win
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Armel Potter finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to lead the George Washington men's basketball team over Milwaukee 66-63 on Sunday afternoon in the fifth-place contest at the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase.
Potter completed the showcase with his third-straight 20+ point performance and received the start in the finale. He finished the weekend averaging 22.3 points per game.
Jamison Battle also hit in double figures all three games and picked up his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Colonials saw a breakout performance from Ace Stallings with a career-best nine points and three rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.
As in the previous two games in the Bahamas, GW raced out to an early double-digit lead after Jamison Battle hit a 3-pointer to give the Colonials a 16-6 edge with 13:16 left. The Buff & Blue saw their lead shrink to five (31-26) after shooting 2-of-11 from the field in the final 6:09 of the half.
The Colonials made three of four from the outside to start the second half and led 42-30 after Potter drove the lane with 16 minutes remaining. Milwaukee attempted a late comeback after trailing 61-51 with 36 seconds remaining. The Panthers had a quick 5-0 spurt thanks to a trio of made free throws by Darius Roy and a GW turnover that led to a Josh Thomas layup. With Milwaukee forced to foul, Potter made five of six free throws before Roy made a non-factoring three at the buzzer.
GW will sit idle through the Thanksgiving break before returning for its next road contest at South Carolina on Sunday, December 1 at 2 p.m. The game can be seen on SEC Network+ with live audio from Byron Kerr on TuneIn.
