
Colonials Fall in Opening Round of Bahamas Showcase

Potter led the Colonials with 19 Points
George Washington men's basketball led for nearly 36 minutes, which included a 15-point lead in the first half, but Kansas City slowly chipped away in the second and erased a double-digit lead to advance into the Bahamas Showcase winner's bracket with a 74-68 win over the Colonials.
Armel Potter led the way for GW with 19 points off the bench in 23 minutes and is 24 points away from reaching the 1,000-point plateau.
The Colonials raced out to a 19-4 advantage nine minutes into the contest after three straight 3-pointers from Maceo Jack. He'd add another 3-pointer and a pair of free throws in the second half, finishing with 14 points in 32 minutes. GW continued its strong opening half on both ends of the court and took a 25-10 lead with a three-point play from Potter.
Defensively, the Colonials stopped the Roos on 11 straight possessions, holding them scoreless for seven minutes of play. However, Kansas City finished the half with a 13-5 run and cut the difference to seven at the half (30-23).
In a tale of two halves, KC attacked the glass and depleted the Colonials' lead using a 15-6 run to take a 58-55 edge with 3:46 left.
Jamison Battle finished with 13 points for the Colonials, and Javier Langarica had five points, seven rebounds, and four blocks in the absence of Arnaldo Toro (day-to-day).
Kansas City guard Jashire Hardnett led all scorers with 25 points.
The Colonials will meet the loser of the Evansville/ East Carolina contest at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
