Colonials fight for first team titles in program history
WASHINGTON -Â GW cross country will vie for an Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday, competing at the Oatlands Plantation course in Leesburg, Va. The men kick off the festivities with the 8k race at 10 a.m. followed by the women's 5k competition at 10:50 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Senior Suzanne Dannheim led the Colonials at the Princeton Invitational, earning her second individual win of the season. The GW women finished second overall in a competitive field, edging out A-10 foe La Salle. The men placed 18th with three individuals setting PRs.
CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY:Â The Colonials have seen increased success at the A-10 competition with at least one all-conference performer on both sides in the last two years.Â
The women are aiming to finish above fifth for the first time in program history with Dannheim a legitimate threat to earn the program's first individual title since Megan Hogan in 2011. The men are looking to break into the top tier for the second time in three years after finishing 3rd in 2017.
INSIDE THE SEASON:Â The women's team has had a tremendous season, recording three top-four finishes in their four meets. Individually, Dannheim has won two meets, running the second- and fifth-fastest 6k times in program history in the process. Margaret Coogan (4th), Mariah Moro (9th) and Kathryn Nohilly (10th) have also entered their names in the top 10 fastest 6k times in program annals.
All six of the men's regular competitors are new to cross country, including five first-years. James Glockenmeier was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week following his performance at the Paul Short Run, where he placed 21st overall, and classmate Juan Moscoso has paced the team on three other occasions.
