Colonials visit Midshipmen on Friday night

GW men's water polo jumps back into Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play with a Friday night trip to Navy. It's a 7 p.m. start at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md.

LAST TIME OUT: No. 15 GW went 2-2 against Northeast Water Polo Conference competition at last weekend's Harvard Invitational. The Colonials sit at 16-6 overall after downing MIT and St. Francis Brooklyn and falling vs. the host Crimson and Brown.

Andras Levai totaled a team-high nine goals over the four games, highlighted by a four-goal, three-assist effort in the 14-9 victory over MIT.

Atakan Destici totaled eight scores in his return from injury, and Andrew Mavis chipped in eight goals of his own over the two days at Harvard.

HAVE A DAY, DJ: DJ Davis enjoyed a breakout effort in last Sunday's 9-8 win over then-No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn.

After entering the contest with two goals on the fall, Davis scored three times vs. the Terriers, including a goal in GW's decisive 4-0 fourth-quarter run. The sophomore from California scored another goal later in the day vs. Brown to push his season total to six.

MILESTONES GALORE: Mavis scored the 250th goal of his career on Saturday vs. Harvard. The senior from New Jersey enters Friday's tilt with 253 goals, which ranks fourth on GW's career list.

A junior from Hungary, Levai tallied No. 200 in Buff and Blue in last Thursday's MAWPC victory, while senior Jordan Blosser netted the 100th goal of his career vs. the Blue Jays.

SCOUTING NAVY: The Midshipmen picked up an important MAWPC victory last Saturday, beating then-No. 16 Fordham, 15-12, to improve to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play. They trailed by two goals before running off five unanswered scores to close the game.

Isaac Salinas scored a team-high six goals vs. Fordham and leads Navy with 72 goals on the season.

GW has won the past seven meetings in the series, dating back to 2016.

UP NEXT: GW hosts a pair of MAWPC contests at The St. James next weekend. The Colonials will welcome Johns Hopkins (Nov. 2, 6 p.m.) and the Midshipmen (Nov. 3, noon) to the all-deep pool in Springfield, Va.
