Men's Water Polo Closes 2-2 Weekend

Colonials beat No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn before falling to Brown
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - GW men's water polo split vs. a pair of Northeast Water Polo Conference foes Sunday to finish its stay at the Harvard Invitational.
The 15th-ranked Colonials held off No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn, 9-8, in the morning at Blodgett Pool before closing the weekend with a 16-10 loss to Brown.
DJ Davis tied Gabriele Simonti for the team lead with four goals in the doubleheader after having two total goals on the season entering the day.
With a 2-2 showing at Harvard, the Buff and Blue sit at 16-6 overall.
GW 9, St. Francis Brooklyn 8: The Colonials grabbed the lead with four straight fourth-quarter goals and then weathered a final push by the Terriers to avenge a pair of losses earlier this fall.
GW trailed 6-5 before the decisive run that included goals by Davis, Atakan Destici, Chris Lee and Andras Levai. Davis' score with 3:09 to go made it 9-6 Colonials.
St. Francis Brooklyn answered back with a pair of goals but couldn't find the equalizer. The Buff and Blue made a final defensive stand in the closing seconds to finish out the victory.
Davis scored a season-high three goals, and Levai also chipped in three scores. Destici, Lee and Gabriele Simonti added single goals for the Colonials.
After allowing three goals over the opening seven minutes, the GW defense buckled down to cede just five more over the final 25 minutes, highlighted by a scoreless second period.
Brown 16, GW 10:Â The Bears broke open a tight game with a 6-1 edge in the third quarter to take Sunday's finale.
After GW tied it at 5-5 on Nick Schroeder's goal with 5:08 left in the opening half, Brown scored the next eight goals with the last two of the second quarter and the first six of the third to extend its advantage to 13-5.
Simonti scored three goals to pace the Colonials, while Antonin Kralj posted a pair of scores. Destici, Davis, Mavis, Lee and Schroeder also found the net vs. Brown.
