Colonials welcome Eagles to Foggy Bottom on Saturday
The Colonials will travel to Annapolis, Md., on Friday afternoon to face host Navy, Towson, Johns Hopkins and Miami (women only) at Lejeune Hall.
The next day, GW will welcome Boston College to Smith Center Pool for its home debut. The meet will open with a round of diving beginning at noon before the swimming events start at 1 p.m. (Fans should use the northwest entrance nearest the intersection of 23rd and G streets.)
LAST TIME OUT: A select group of Colonials opened the season two weeks ago at Florida International's TYR Fall Classic. The men took third-place facing a decorated field, and the women landed fifth in the team standings.
A pair of newcomers were honored by the Atlantic 10 for their performances at the two-day meet. George Aspougalis was named the conference's Men's Performer of the Week after posting a pair of breaststroke wins, while Stine Omdahl Peterson earned Women's Rookie of the Week honors in recognition of three strong individual swims.
MAKING A SPLASH: Aspougalis and Omdahl Petersen were among five newcomers to make their collegiate debuts at FIU.
A first-year from Greece, Aspougalis won the 100 breast in 55.43 seconds before taking the 200 breast in 2:00.90. Both times rank among GW's all-time top 10 in those events.
Omdahl Petersen's time of 2:21.51 in the 200 breast ranks seventh on GW's all-time top 10. The Norway native placed third in the event against top competition.
Swimmer Tyler Kawakami and divers Spencer Bystrom and Caitlin Inall also represented the Buff and Blue at the meet.
RIGHT AT HOME: GW has excelled in its home pool recently. The men have won seven straight home meets dating back to October 2016, while the women have won six of their seven home competitions over the past two seasons. Both stretches includes a sweep of Boston College (Men: 185-115; Women: 181-119) in Foggy Bottom on Oct. 21, 2017.
COMING UP: GW is back in action next weekend with a dual meet at Virginia Tech. The Colonials will face the Hokies at 2 p.m.
