Men's Rowing Sends Three Boats to IRA National Championship

ON THE LINE: The George Washington men's rowing team will send three boats to this weekend's 116th Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships, hosted by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey.
SCHEDULE: Racing commences Friday with morning heats followed by repechages in the afternoon. The semifinal schedule kicks off on Saturday morning with the grand, petite, third-level and fourth-level finals on Sunday.
PROGRESSIONS: For both the V8 and 2V8, the top two boats in each heat automatically advance to Saturday's semifinals, while the rest of the crews will compete in repechages on Friday afternoon. The top boat in each repechage secures a spot in the top semifinal.
For the 3V8, the top two boats in each heat move on to the semifinals, while the remaining boats race again on Friday afternoon. The top two boats in each repechage secure spots in the top semifinal.
SEEDING AND MATCHUPS: The Varsity 8 enters IRAs seeded 15th in the nation and will face off against Yale, Northeastern, Stanford, Oregon State and University of California-San Diego in its Friday heat (8:10 a.m.).
The 2nd Varsity 8 is seeded 14th overall and will race against University of California-Berkley, Northeastern, Cornell, Florida Institute of Technology and University of California-San Diego (9:20 a.m.).
The 3rd Varsity 8 is also seeded 14th and will race in its heat (10:00 a.m.) against University of California-Berkley, Boston University, Brown and University of California-San Diego.
LAST TIME AT IRAs: All three boats matched or outperformed their seeding at last season's IRA National Championships in Sacramento, California.
GW placed 15th overall as a team with final boat rankings of 14th by the Varsity 8, a mark that tied the best finish in program history, 12th by the 2nd Varsity 8 and 15th by the 3rd Varsity 8.
