George Washington women's water polo heads to Saint Francis (Pa.) this weekend for three games against Collegiate Water Polo Association competition.
The Colonials (9-6) are set for a doubleheader against the host Red Flash and Bucknell on Saturday at Stokes Natatorium before wrapping up against No. 22 Harvard on Sunday. (Note: These games will not count toward the conference standings.)
LAST TIME OUT: GW swept a non-conference doubleheader last Saturday, downing Gannon, 14-9, before beating host VMI, 14-12, in overtime. The Colonials scored the first four goals of overtime against the Keydets to pull out a game that was tight throughout.
Scarlett Hallahan totaled five goals and three assists on the day to become the program's all-time points leader with 364. The senior from California also had a team-high seven steals. Freshman Alana Ponce pitched in six goals and two assists.
Both Hallahan (Player of the Week) and Ponce (Rookie of the Week) were named to the CWPA weekly honor roll for their efforts.
POWER PLAY PROVIDERS: Through 15 games, GW has drawn 100 ejections, paced by 21 from freshman Dara Bleiberg. In all, four Colonials have drawn double-digit ejections.
Erin McGeoy has 11 of them this season to move into third on GW's career list with 197.
SCOUTING SAINT FRANCIS (PA): The Red Flash won two of three at last weekend's Hartwick Invitational to improve to 12-5 on the season.
GW won the first meeting between these clubs, 21-13, on Feb. 11, paced by four goals and four assists from Bleiberg. It was the most goals the Colonials have scored in a game this season.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL: The Bison (8-11) have dropped four in a row, entering the weekend.
Bucknell beat GW, 11-8, on Feb. 11 in Lewisburg, Pa. Emily Konishi had four goals and four assists in the victory.
SCOUTING HARVARD: The Crimson (11-10) picked up quality wins over No. 23 Marist and No. 24 Cal Baptist in California last week. All 10 of their losses this season have come to foes currently ranked in the Top 25.
UP NEXT: GW has next weekend off before CWPA play ramps up. The Colonials are set for four conference games over two days at Harvard on April 7 and 8. They'll play their other four league opponents the following weekend at Princeton.
