Colonials welcome crosstown Bison to Foggy Bottom
George Washington swimming and diving celebrates Senior Day on Saturday, welcoming crosstown foe Howard to Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
The Colonials will unveil their 2018 Atlantic 10 men's championship banner and honor their 13 seniors, beginning at approximately 12:40 p.m., before their lone full-squad home meet of the season.
LAST TIME OUT: GW has had the past three weekends off since making a weekend trip for dual meets at Penn State and Pittsburgh on back-to-back days.
Andrew Cho (Performer of the Week) and Dylan Arzoni (Rookie of the Week) were honored by the A-10 for their efforts against the Power Five foes.
Jackie Torrez paced the women for the weekend, highlighted by three second-place finishes in the meet at Pitt.
FALL FEATS: Isabela Patino and Andrea Ho recorded all-time Top 10 times at the season-opening TYR Fall Classic in Florida. Patino, a first-year from California, checks in at No. 9 in the 100-yard butterfly (57.31), while Ho, a sophomore from Australia, is now No. 6 in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.85).
SENIOR CELEBRATION: This class of 13 seniors has helped GW make significant strides on both sides. The men have won back-to-back A-10 titles, while the women have improved in the conference standings each of the past three seasons.
Alexander Auster, Jarrod Hendricks, Patrick Lersch, Josh Monacelli, Jake Ortiz, Nicolas Reeves, Tommi Wolst, Lucy Castro, Kelsey Oliver, Caroline Racke, Miranda Simon, Isobel Walker and Emily Zhang are set to be honored Saturday. SCOUTING HOWARD: The Bison women are 4-3 in dual-meet action so far this season, while the men's squad is 2-5. Both sides fell to Mount St. Mary's and Monmouth in their most recent competition last Saturday.
GW picked up a sweep when these teams met last season at Howard's Burr Gym Pool. The men won, 136-85, while the women earned a 127-80 victory.
COMING UP: GW heads to Charlotte, N.C., next weekend for three days of competition at the Queens University Fall Frenzy. That meet serves as the fall finale for the men, while the women will be in action at Smith Center Pool against A-10 foe Richmond for a two-day dual meet on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
