NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington swimming and diving has swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards for the first time, the conference announced Tuesday.
Peter Nachtwey and Gemma Atherley were honored as the conference's Performers of the Week, while Dylan Arzoni and Andrea Moussier were named the Rookies of the Week. The Colonials were honored for their efforts in Saturday's Senior Day wins over Howard at Smith Center Pool.
Nachtwey turned in a record-breaking performance against the Bison, smashing his own program mark for 3-meter diving with a score of 387.23. The sophomore from Ohio also claimed victory on the 1-meter board with a season-best score of 298.35. This is his first Performer of the Week honor after winning Rookie of the Week a program-record four times last season.
Atherley paced the GW women with a pair of individual wins in their home debut. The junior from the Channel Islands won the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.71) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.70) and also swam a leg on GW's top 400-yard freestyle relay team. It's her second A-10 weekly award after being named Performer of the Week on Jan. 16, 2018.
Arzoni, a first-year from England, picked up his second Rookie of the Week award after posting individual wins in the 100-yard butterfly (season-best 50.89 seconds) and 200-yard freestyle (1:42.89) and contributing to a 200-yard medley relay victory.
Moussier added her second Rookie of the Week honor, as well. The Mexico native won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 10:20.64 and also placed second in her collegiate debut in the 100-yard butterfly (58.88 seconds).
GW is back in action at the Queens University Fall Frenzy, which begins Friday in North Carolina.
