
Women’s Soccer Triumphs on Senior Day

Colonials top Dayton, 1-0, in overtime thriller
WASHINGTON – In its penultimate game at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington women's soccer team took a triumphant overtime win over the visiting Dayton Flyers, finding the back of the net in the game's 99th minute to earn the Senior Day victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 99th Minute – After rattling off four shots in extra time, and holding the Flyers to none, the Colonials took control of the ball with two minutes left to play. With the one minute warning within reach, Sofia Pavon dodged ahead of the Dayton defense on the right side of the field and shot the ball towards the net where Natalie Silberman was able to tip it in to secure the GW victory. (GW 1, DAY 0)
NOTEWORTHY
• Silberman's goal at the 99th minute marks her second game-winner of the season and the third of her career. The sophomore ranks second on the team with 10 points (4g, 2a) and has started all 16 contests this season.
• Pavon's assist on Silberman's goal marks her career-high fifth helper of the season. The senior forward has tallied at least one point in four of the last five matches.
• After holding a slim 5-4 advantage in shots at the half, the Colonials picked it up for the game's second stanza and fired 11 shots to Dayton's six. In overtime, it was all GW as they took four additional shots while holding the Flyers to none. The Buff and Blue finished the day owning a 20-10 shots advantage and are now outshooting their opponents 243-182 in 2018.
• Keeper Anna Tapen had a stellar day between the pipes and made six saves enroute to turning in a clean sheet. The shutout marks Tapen's sixth of the season.
• The Colonials went to extra time for the third time this season. GW previously defeated Liberty in overtime (2-1, Aug. 19) and went to a scoreless draw with Maryland (September 9).
• Prior to kickoff, the Colonials honored seniors Mia Barreda, Dani Frese, Charley Prevost, and Anna Tapen.

The Colonials will host Davidson on Thursday, October 18 at 3 p.m. for their finale at the GW Soccer Field before closing out their regular-season at Saint Louis on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. The top eight squads will then advance to the A-10 Tournament, with the quarterfinal rounds being contested at campus sites.
