Colonials drop Davidson, 3-2, in double overtime
WASHINGTON – In its final regular season match at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington women's soccer squad bounced back from a two goal deficit at the half with three unanswered goals to drop the Davidson Wildcats, 3-2, in double overtime on Thursday afternoon.
With the victory, the Colonials clinch a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 13th Minute: The Wildcats were first to strike with a goal from Emma Nguyen. After a Davidson corner kick, keeper Anna Tapen made a punch save that put the ball right in the box, where Nguyen was able to tip it into the back of the net. (DAV 1, GW 0)
• 35th Minute: Davidson was able to pad its lead 22 minutes later with a penalty kick goal from Michele Manceaux. (DAV 2, GW 0)
• 66th Minute – After dishing off six shots to open the second half, the Colonials were finally able to find the back of the net when Sofia Pavon weaved around the Wildcats backline and found Kelly Amador, who shot the ball just out of the reach of the Davidson keeper. (DAV 2, GW 1)
• 83rd Minute – With seven minutes left on the clock, the Colonials' continued to press and were able to break through the Davidson defense once again with an equalizer from Pavon. (GW 2, DAV 2)
• 107th Minute – After rattling off six unanswered shots in the first overtime period, Pavon took possession of the ball, faked the Wildcats keeper, and shot the ball into an empty net to lift the Colonials to victory. (GW 3, DAV 2)
NOTEWORTHY
• With today's win, the Colonials clinch a berth in the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship. GW will make their sixth straight appearance in A-10s and 13th in program history.
• GW also notches double digits in the win column with today's victory, its fifth straight season posting 10 or more victories and 12th in program history.
• After sitting even with the Wildcats with seven shots apiece at the half, the Colonials saw a second half surge and recorded an additional 16 shots in the game's second stanza. GW finished the game with a dominant 32-10 shots advantage (24-9 SOG) and is outshooting its opponents 275-192 this season.
• Pavon led the squad with a season-high nine shots, six of which came on goal. Amador followed closely behind and was 7-of-7 with shots on goal while Natalie Silberman was 4-of-5.
• The Colonials have scored 15 of their 25 goals this season in the second half.
• Pavon continued her late season tear against the Wildcats, finishing today's match with a career-high five points (2g, 1a). The senior forward has also tallied at least one point in five of the last six matches.
• With the victory, GW takes control of the series history at 2-1-1.

The Colonials will travel to Saint Louis to face the Bilikens for their regular season finale on Sunday at 2 p.m. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top eight squads will advance to the A-10 Tournament, with the quarterfinal rounds being contested at campus sites. The semifinal and final rounds will be held on Friday, November 2 and Sunday, November 4 at Dayton's Baujan Field.
