Colonials completed 2-0 weekend at home
WASHINGTON – Zach Slaughter scored a career-high four goals on Sunday evening to pace George Washington men's water polo in a 20-6 win over Connecticut College in non-conference action at Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
The 19th-ranked Colonials claimed their second comfortable victory of the weekend in their home pool to improve to 15-5 on the season.
GW scored the first five goals and cruised past the Camels, who wrapped up play in the CWPA Division III Eastern Championship earlier in the day. Andras Levai's goal to beat the halftime horn extended the lead to 11-3, and the Colonials added on after the break to reach the 20-goal mark for the second straight game and ninth time this season.
Slaughter made a difference on both ends, highlighted by his career-best goal total. The senior from California scored all four in the opening half and also finished with two assists, two steals, two field blocks and four ejections drawn.
Atakan Destici and Isher Gill tallied three goals apiece for GW. Destici's second goal of the game was the 200th of his decorated career, while it was a memorable performance on a special day for Gill, whose twin brother Rahul plays for Connecticut College.
For the second straight game, 10 different Colonials recorded goals. Andrew Mavis, Zachary Pendolino and Nick Schroeder netted two apiece in another balanced offensive effort.
Matt Taylor got the start in net and recorded six saves against three goals in the opening 16 minutes before Austin Pyrch took over in the the second half, registering eight saves against three goals.
