ON THE LINE: The George Washington men's rowing team will send three boats to compete on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Sunday for the 72nd annual Eastern Association of Rowing College (EARC) Sprints.
THE SPRINTS: The event features 16 of the 20 teams that are currently ranked in the latest US Rowing Collegiate Poll.
The Eastern Sprints begin with morning heats where the top two boats from each heat (three heats per event) will advance to the Grand Finals on Sunday afternoon. The third- and fourth-place finishers in the heat will move on to the Petite Final while the remaining boats will row in the 3rd-Level Final.
POLL WATCH: GW's Varsity 8 enters the weekend ranked No. 17 in the US Rowing Collegiate Poll, down two spots from last week's poll after being idle last weekend.
SEEDING: The EARC seeds each boat based on season performance ahead of the Sprints. The seeds are then used to formulate lane assignments for each heat.
The Varsity 8 is seeded 14th entering Sunday's event. The 2nd Varsity 8 is seeded ninth while the 3rd Varsity 8 is slotted 11th.
HEAT RUNDOWN: The 3rd Varsity 8 will be on the water first on Sunday in its heat at 8:50 a.m. against Yale, Northeastern, Navy and Pennsylvania.
The Varsity 8 will row at 9:24 a.m. against Harvard, Northeastern, Brown, Columbia and MIT.
The 2nd Varsity 8 will round out the heats at 10:36 a.m. against Boston University, Princeton, Columbia, Georgetown and Holy Cross.
