WASHINGTON - GW's men's and women's rowing programs will compete for the first time this spring on their home course this weekend when they host the 29th George Washington Invitational on Saturday on the Potomac River.
The largest collegiate rowing competition in the Washington, D.C., metro area, the 29th installment of this annual event will feature a total of 16 teams competing in 33 races on Saturday morning.
Friday's racing schedule has been cancelled due to unsafe wind conditions on the Potomac River. Saturday's schedule has been revised and will feature 33 races running from 7:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A full schedule is available here.
Men's teams from GW, Georgetown, Navy, Holy Cross, Drexel, Hobart, FIT and MIT will join women's squads from GW, Georgetown, Navy, Saint Joseph's, Duquesne, MIT, Drexel, Dayton and Rhode Island on the Potomac River Race Course.
The 2,000-meter, buoyed race course begins near the Sprout Run area of the Potomac River with the finish line at Washington Harbour (3050 K Street, NW) in Georgetown.
For the seventh consecutive year, GW Rowing and GWsports.com will partner with US Rowing to provide a multi-camera broadcast with audio commentary in high definition. The races will be broadcast both at the venue, on a large jumbotron near the finish line, and on RaiseHigh Live.
The men's programs will compete for the Oliver T. Carr Bowl, which the Colonials won for the first time in program history in 2014. The women's teams will be rowing for the Howard W. Wilkens Bowl, which GW claimed in 2012 and 2005.
The Gilbert H Hood, Jr. Trophy is awarded to the school that boasts the highest overall point total across men's and women's races.
