BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The George Washington women's water polo duo of Scarlett Hallahan and Jacqueline Bywater claimed Collegiate Water Polo Association Division I Co-Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.
GW went 4-0 over the weekend with victories over Saint Francis, Bucknell, Grove City and Siena, as Hallahan and Bywater contributed on both sides of the pool. Hallahan had 12 goals and eight assists in all, and scored a key goal to put the game away vs. Saint Francis, as the Red Flash had rallied to get within two in the fourth quarter before her goal with 1:43 to play. She also had five goals in the weekend finale vs. Siena, an 11-8 win.
Bywater gave a stout defensive effort, totaling 16 steals, as GW yielded just 6.5 goals per game. She also added eight goals and four assists.
Additionally, freshman goalkeeper Samantha Runyon was named to the Rookie of the Week honor roll after recording 12 saves and yielding just six goals in three games.
The Colonials, who at 6-2 have matched their best start in school history, return to action on March 4 at VMI.
