GW Women's Water Polo Drops Two CWPA Matches

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The George Washington women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches to ranked CWPA opponents on Saturday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool, falling to No. 13 Indiana and No. 15 Princeton.
GW and Indiana were tied, 2-2, with 4:24 to go in the first quarter of the opening game after back-to-back goals by sophomores Jacqueline Bywater and Maddie Goodell, but the Hoosiers scored three in a row to take a 5-2 lead after one, and a 3-1 second period made it 8-3 at halftime. Indiana extended its lead to 11-4 after three quarters before taking the 13-5 final decision.
Bywater paced the Colonials with two goals and four steals, while Goodell tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore Erin McGeoy recorded five ejections drawn, and freshman goalkeeper Katherine Moeller stopped seven shots in the cage.
In the nightcap, host Princeton scored the first five goals before Bywater put the Colonials on the board at the 1:50 mark of the opening quarter. The Tigers scored another five in a row to start the second stanza before McGeoy found the back of the cage with 2:06 remaining in the half. Princeton held an 11-2 lead at the break, then scored twice in each of the remaining periods while blanking GW to take a 15-2 win.
Sophomore Maggie Ball matched her own program record with eight steals in the game, and McGeoy recorded three ejections drawn. Bywater added an assist and a steal in the contest, and senior goalkeeper Addy Colona made three saves.
The Colonials conclude the regular season on Sunday with two CWPA matchups, as they will face No. 6 Michigan at 9 a.m. and No. 18 Harvard at 1 p.m. at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
