THAT'S A WRAP: The GW women's water polo team wraps up the regular season with five games this weekend. The Colonials first visit non-conference foe St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday at 6 p.m. before heading to Princeton, New Jersey, for four CWPA contests on Saturday and Sunday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
TOUGH TESTS: All four CWPA rivals GW will face this weekend are ranked in the top 20 in the most recent national poll -- No. 13 Indiana (Saturday, 3:20 p.m.), No. 15 Princeton (Saturday, 7:20 p.m.), No. 6 Michigan (Sunday, 9 a.m.) and No. 18 Harvard (Sunday, 1 p.m.). The Colonials have already faced seven ranked opponents this season and defeated No. 22 Iona, 10-8, on March 11 for their first win over a ranked team in at least a decade.
LAST TIME OUT: After falling to Brown and No. 21 Hartwick at home on Saturday, GW took Bucknell to overtime before dropping a 15-13 heartbreaker. Sophomores Jacqueline Bywater and Scarlett Hallahan scored five goals apiece to pace the Colonials. Bywater led the Colonials with 13 goals across the three games, while Hallahan had 10 and sophomore Erin McGeoy, who scored the game-tying goal against the Bison, had four goals, five steals and 12 ejections drawn on the weekend.
RECORDS WATCH: Senior Hannah Cox, GW's all-time leading scorer with 186 career goals, also ranks ninth all-time at GW with 198 points and 10th with 97 ejections drawn. Sophomore Maggie Ball is currently tied for second all-time with 24 career field blocks, while Hallahan is close behind in fourth place with 22. In addition, Bywater moved into 10th place on the Colonials' all-time assists list over the weekend with 71.
CENTURY MARK: Cox (186), Hallahan (127) and Bywater (111) give the Colonials three players with 100 career goals for the first time since Rachael Bentley, Katherine Berry and Megan Brolley in 2014.
SUPER SOPHS: The sophomore class of Hallahan, Bywater, Ball, McGeoy, Maddie Goodell and Megan Belliveau has accounted for nearly 72 percent of GW's total goals, 82 percent of the team's assists, 64 percent of its steals and 60 percent of its ejections drawn this season. Hallahan leads the Colonials with 46 goals, 21 assists and 35 steals, while McGeoy has drawn a team-best 30 ejections.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS: St. Francis Brooklyn (5-20) has lost three in a row since a 12-11 victory over VMI on April 3. Most recently, the Terriers dropped a pair of matches to MAAC rivals Siena and Iona. Erin Gonzalez and Samantha Khalil pace St. Francis with 46 and 43 goals, respectively. The Terriers have allowed 16.76 goals per game this season.
GW VS. ST. FRANCIS: The Colonials hold a 6-1 series advantage over the Terriers with four straight wins. GW defeated St. Francis twice last season, including an 18-6 victory at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool. Bywater matched her own single-game scoring records with eight goals and 11 points in that contest to go with five steals, while Hallahan and Cox each notched hat tricks. Earlier in the season, Bywater tallied five goals and two assists against the Terriers, while Hallahan scored three goals and Cox recorded a pair of goals and five ejections drawn. Cox also posted a hat trick against St. Francis in the teams' 2013 matchup.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS: No. 13 Indiana (17-6, 2-1 CWPA) has won seven of its last eight games since March 13, with its lone loss in that span coming at the hands of Michigan on April 2. All six of the Hoosiers' losses this season have come to ranked opponents. IU is coming off wins over CWPA rivals Harvard and Princeton in Ann Arbor, Michigan, last Saturday. Kelly Matthews leads the Hoosiers with 58 goals, 43 assists and 43 steals this season, while Candyce Schroeder has recorded 49 goals and a team-high 31 ejections drawn. The Hoosiers have allowed just under nine goals per game this season, with starting goalkeeper Mary Campbell boasting a .562 save percentage.
GW VS. INDIANA: The 16th-ranked Hoosiers beat the Colonials, 19-5, last season. Hallahan tallied three goals while Bywater had a goal and two assists to lead GW. Prior to that contest, GW and Indiana had not met since 2011.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: No. 15 Princeton (14-5, 1-2 CWPA) defeated Harvard, 9-7, on Sunday to snap a three-game skid that included losses to three ranked opponents, including Michigan and Indiana. SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: No. 6 Michigan (22-6, 3-0 CWPA) has won six in a row since a March 19 loss to No. 9 Arizona State, with five of the wins in that span coming against ranked opponents. SCOUTING THE CRIMSON: No. 18 Harvard (20-7, 1-3 CWPA) is coming off a 9-8 win over Brown on Wednesday, which snapped a three-game conference losing streak in which the Crimson fell to Indiana, Michigan and Princeton. Kristen Hong paces Harvard with 63 goals, while Charlotte Hendrix has dished out 43 assists to go with her 38 goals. Goalkeeper Cleo Harrington boasts 228 saves in the cage.
GW VS. HARVARD: Sunday's regular-season finale will be the 45th all-time meeting between the Colonials and Crimson, the second-most games for GW against any opponent. Last season, Harvard defeated GW, 15-7, with Hallahan and Cox each scoring a pair of goals for the Colonials.
ON TAP: The Colonials will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the CWPA Championship April 29-May 1 at Harvard's Blodgett Pool.
