WASHINGTON -- The George Washington women's water polo team placed five athletes on the 2015 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team and three on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team, the organizations announced.
Junior Hannah Cox and freshmen Scarlett Hallahan and Erin McGeoy were honored by both groups, while senior Jessie Sinkula and junior Caroline Sandri were recognized by the CWPA. All five Colonials earned superior status for boasting a cumulative grade-point average between 3.41 and 3.70.
Cox garnered superior accolades from both organizations for the third year in a row, while Sinkula was honored at that level by the CWPA for the fourth straight season. Sandri earned her second academic distinction after taking excellent status a year ago.
With a team GPA of 3.02, GW was one of 10 teams in the CWPA and one of 25 across the nation above a 3.0.
The ACWPC All-Academic Team and CWPA Scholar-Athlete Team honor varsity student-athletes who possess a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher, and the ACWPC requires the athletes to have competed in at least half of their team's games during the 2015 season. The ACWPC recognized 314 student-athletes across the nation, while the CWPA honored 103 from its member schools.
