GW Men's Rowing Completes Day 2 at IRA Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The George Washington men's rowing team competed in three races on the second day of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships on Saturday morning on Lake Mercer.
Sunday's finals are now set after the Colonials raced a Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 on a beautiful morning. Race conditions featured a slight tailwind with an occasional gust.
The Varsity 8 opened GW's day of racing in its semifinal and rowed to a fourth-place finish with a time of 5:48.99. The Colonials rallied in the final 500 meters of the race course to finish ahead of Syracuse (5:48.99) and Oregon State (5:50.47). Dartmouth won the semifinal in 5:43.61, followed by Holy Cross (5:45.79) and Wisconsin (5:45.89).
The V8 advances to Sunday's Fourth-Level Final and will row against Oregon State, Syracuse, Drexel, Oklahoma City and UC Santa Clara at 11:24 a.m.
The 2V8 put forth a valiant effort in its respective semifinal, finishing in second place in 5:55.30, just four seconds behind first-place Navy (5:51.40). Oregon State took third in 5:58.92, ahead of FIT (6:04.71) and Holy Cross (6:07.16).
The Colonials' 2V8 will row in Sunday's Third-Level Final against Hobart, Columbia, Navy, Syracuse and Oregon State at 9:48 a.m.
The final race of the morning was the Varsity 4, in which GW finished in fifth place in its semifinal. The Colonials logged a time of 6:46.94. Navy won the semifinal in 6:39.93 ahead of Penn (6:41.06), Dartmouth (6:42.04), Milwaukee (6:43.35) and GW.
In addition to the Varsity 8 and 2V8, GW's 3rd Varsity 8 will row in Sunday's Third-Level Final at 9:36 a.m. The Colonials will face off against Hobart, Drexel, Oregon State, Syracuse, Penn and Holy Cross.
