GW Men's Rowing Set for IRA National Championships

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's rowing team will conclude its 2015 spring season at this weekend's 113th Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships, hosted by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey.
The Colonials will race a Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, 3rd Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 in the prestigious event, which features the top crews in the country and crowns the winner of the Varsity 8 Grand Final as the National Champion.
Last season, GW's Varsity 8 and Freshmen 8 boats clinched the program's best-ever performances at the event. The Varsity 8 finished the season ranked 14th overall in the nation, a one-spot improvement from 2013. The Freshmen 8 finished last season ranked No. 7, a three-spot improvement from 2013.
Racing commences with Friday's morning heats followed by repechages in the afternoon. Semifinals are scheduled for Saturday morning with the grand, petite, third-level and fourth-level finals on Sunday.
The top two boats from each heat of the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8 and 3rd Varsity 8 will automatically advance to Saturday's semifinals while the remaining boats will race in Friday afternoon's repechages.
For the Varsity 4, the top boat in each heat advances to Saturday's semifinals while the remaining boats will compete in Friday afternoon's repechage.

The Varsity 8 will row against Syracuse, Pennsylvania, Yale, Brown and Stanford in its morning heat. The full field also includes defending national champion Washington, Boston University, Brown, California, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Drexel, FIT, Harvard, Hobart, Holy Cross, Navy, Northeastern, Oklahoma City, Princeton, Santa Clara and Wisconsin.
The 2V8 will row against Cornell, Washington, Harvard and Syracuse in its morning heat while the 3V8 faces Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Washington and Northeastern.
The Varsity 4 is scheduled to compete against Drexel, Georgetown, Cornell, Santa Clara and Northeastern.
