GW Men's Rowing Set for EARC Sprints

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's rowing team will return to action following a two-week hiatus to compete in its conference championship at the 70th annual Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints on Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Three seniors will be missing Sunday's commencement exercises on the National Mall, but were able to participate in an intimate commencement ceremony earlier this week. (link)
The Eastern Sprints features 14 of the top-20 teams in the latest US Rowing Collegiate Poll. The event will begin with morning heats followed by the finals in the afternoon.
The Colonials will enter four boats into the event, a Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, 3rd Varsity 8 and 4th Varsity 8.
The top two boats from each morning heat of the V8 and 2V8 will advance to the Grand Finals. Boats that finish in third and fourth place will compete in the Petite Finals while fourth and fifth place will row in the 3rd Level Finals.
GW's Varsity 8 enters the weekend receiving votes in the US Rowing Collegiate Poll and ranked 17th among teams competing in the Eastern Sprints. The Colonials will open competition on Sunday morning at approximately 9:24 a.m. in a heat against Princeton, Northeastern, Cornell, Wisconsin and Holy Cross.
The 2nd Varsity 8, seeded 14th, will launch at roughly 10:24 a.m. as the Colonials face Yale, Brown, Penn, Navy and Rutgers.
For the 3V8 and 4V8, the top three teams from each heat will advance to the Grand Final while the remaining boats will compete in the Petite Final.
The 3V8 launches at 8:50 a.m. against Princeton, Northeastern, Navy, Penn and Rutgers while the 4V8 rows at 8:00 a.m. against Cornell, Yale, Dartmouth and Princeton.
GW last competed on May 8 in a series of races against Navy and Hobart on Lake Mercer in Princeton, New Jersey. The 3V8 and 4V8 each posted second-place finishes while the V8 and 2V8 each finished third.
