WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's rowing team returns to its home course on the Potomac River to host the 27th George Washington Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
Racing will commence on Friday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. before Saturday's two sessions from 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.
Last season, the Colonials totaled 108 points and won nine consecutive races to win the Oliver T. Carr Bowl for the first time in program history.
This weekend, GW will row in a series of races against Virginia (Friday beginning at 3:40 p.m.), Holy Cross (Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.) and Gonzaga (Saturday beginning at 2:40 p.m.). Other competing teams include Navy and Georgetown.
The Oliver T. Carr Bowl will be awarded to the highest scoring men's program at the event. Fifteen points will be awarded to the winner of the Varsity 8 races while 12 points will go to the winner in both the 2nd Varsity 8 and 3rd Varsity 8 races. No points are awarded for second place.
This weekend marks the third spring races of the season for the Colonials. GW competed in a series of four races last weekend against Harvard and Cornell on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts. The Colonials finished in third place in each of the four races.
For the fifth consecutive year, GW Rowing and GWsports.com will be partnering with USRowing in providing multiple camera angles and audio commentary for a high-definition broadcast both at the venue on RaiseHigh Live, the subscription-based multimedia video platform for GWsports.com. Along with the live online video streaming, fans attending the event at Washington Harbour in Georgetown will be able to watch and listen to audio commentary for all races in their entirety on a large video screen located along the riverwalk.
