PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The George Washington women's water polo team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of losses to Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) rivals Brown and No. 20 Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Brown's Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Junior Hannah Cox paced GW (12-14, 1-8 CWPA) with five goals and moved into fifth place all-time at GW with 155 in her career. Freshman Jacqueline Bywater tallied six points on three goals and three assists and added seven steals in the two games.
The Colonials held a 2-0 lead over Brown after the first quarter in the opening game and was up, 3-1, midway through the second. The Bears tied it with 2:12 left in the period, but freshman Scarlett Hallahan and Cox tallied back-to-back goals to give GW a 5-3 halftime lead.
Brown scored the first two goals of the third quarter to tie the game at 5-5, but the Colonials took a 6-5 lead at the end of the period on another goal by Hallahan. The teams then traded goals in the fourth, with the Bears tying the game at 9-9 with 38 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Brown took its first lead of the game with nine seconds to go in the opening three minutes of the extra session, and neither team scored in the second half of overtime as the Bears held on for the 10-9 win.

In the second game of the day, GW again took a 2-0 lead over 20th-ranked Harvard, but the Crimson tied it with two straight to end the quarter. Harvard led by just one, 5-4, at the break, but outscored the Colonials, 5-1, in the decisive third period to take a commanding 10-5 lead, and a 5-2 fourth quarter accounted for the 15-7 final.
Hallahan and Cox each scored twice for the Colonials, while McGeoy had two assists and two ejections drawn. Bywater recorded four steals and Vilander made 10 saves to pace GW defensively.
