REDLANDS, Calif. - Freshman Jacqueline Bywater scored five goals and freshman Scarlett Hallahan added three as the George Washington women's water polo team defeated the University of Redlands, 15-6, on Monday evening at the Bulldog's Thompson Aquatic Center.
Redlands scored the first goal of the game at the 5:29 mark, but GW (8-8) scored six unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead after one quarter. Bywater tallied the Colonials' first three goals of the game in a spurt of just two minutes.
The Bulldogs ended GW's surge just 31 seconds into the second period, but back-to-back goals by Hallahan and junior Addy Colona made it 8-2 before Redlands scored the final goal of the quarter. The Colonials led 8-3 at halftime and 11-5 after three, then outscored the Bulldogs, 4-1, in the fourth period for the 15-6 victory.
Bywater finished with seven points on five goals and two assists and Hallahan had four points on three goals and a helper. Sophomore Maddy Johnson recorded a game-high five steals and also scored twice, and senior goalkeeper Chandler Vilander made 11 saves.
The Colonials return to action on Tuesday when they visit Cal Baptist. Game time is set for 9:30 p.m. ET.
