2016 GW Women's Water Polo Schedule
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington women's water polo team will take part in three tournaments and host a weekend of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) games as part of a 23-game regular-season schedule, second-year head coach Adam Foley announced today.
The Colonials will begin their 2016 campaign on Feb. 27-28 at Bucknell's Bison Invitational, when they will face Washington & Jefferson, Gannon and VMI.
GW opens March with a home-and-home series against VMI, visiting the Keydets on Tuesday, March 1, before hosting the return game at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool on Thursday, March 3.
The Colonials head to a pair of challenging tournaments over the next two weekends. First up is the Wolverine Invite hosted by the University of Michigan, March 5-6, where GW will take on a pair of CWPA rivals in Bucknell and the host Wolverines, as well as two teams from the West Cost which finished last season ranked in the national top 20 -- No. 2 UCLA and No. 15 Long Beach State.
The following weekend, the Colonials will embark on their annual trip to California. GW begins its West Coast swing at the Lancer Invite hosted by California Baptist on March 11-12, with games against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Cal Lutheran, La Verne and the host Lancers. The Colonials then conclude their trip with matches at Azusa Pacific on March 15 and Chapman on March 16.
GW returns home to host a trio of CWPA rivals from April 9-10. The Colonials will face Brown and Harvard in a doubleheader on April 9 before concluding the weekend against Bucknell on April 10.
After a non-conference matchup at St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, April 15, the Colonials conclude the regular season with four league contests on April 16-17 at Princeton, where they will face Indiana, Princeton, Michigan and Harvard. The Hoosiers and Tigers each finished 2015 ranked in the top 20 nationally.
The 2016 CWPA Championship is slated for April 29-May 1 at Harvard's Blodgett Pool.
The Colonials return 13 letterwinners from the 2015 squad, which finished 14-17 overall and placed eighth at the CWPA Championship.
