
No. 13 GW Men's Squash Wins Twice on Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 13 George Washington men's squash team extended its season-opening win streak to three with a pair of victories over Dickinson and Virginia on Sunday afternoon at McArthur Squash Center.
GW (3-0) won eight of nine matches in straight sets in a 9-0 win over Dickinson to start the day.
Freshman Moudy Abdel-Maksoud, playing No. 1 for the Colonials, was the only Colonial to be pushed past three sets. He dropped the opening frame to Abdelrahman Elsergany, 8-11, before rebounding to tie the match with an 11-9 win in the second. He then outlasted his opponent to take the third set, 12-10, before clinching the victory with an 11-5 win in the fourth.
The rest of GW's lineup conceded an average of four points per set to allow GW to pick up its second consecutive 9-0 sweep.
In the nightcap, the Colonials knocked off the host Cavaliers, 7-2. Four of GW's seven victories came in extra sets.
Abdel-Maksoud led the way with an 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 sweep of Mason Blake at No. 1.
Virginia earned wins at both No. 2 and No. 4, but junior Andres de Frutos picked up a big win at No. 3, 10-12, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7 over Grayson Bubrosky, to ensure a split in the top four.
The Colonials controlled the bottom of the ladder with wins at Nos. 5-9. Junior James Reiss cruised past Stewart Staunton at No. 5, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8, while senior Reid Breck battled past Killian Bubrosky at No. 6, 9-11, 18-16, 11-4, 11-7.
Sophomore Omar Mussehl rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to earn a hard-fought 8-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7 win over Maxwell Novick at No. 8.
Also earning victories for the Colonials were junior Josh Marks (11-8, 11-6, 13-11 at No. 7) and sophomore John Bassett (11-1, 9-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9 at No. 9).
GW returns to action with a pair of matches in Annapolis, Maryland, next weekend against No. 24 Hobart (Sat., 12 p.m.) and Denison (Sat., 2:30 p.m.).
