No. 13 GW Men's Squash Improves to 5-0

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 13 George Washington men's squash team picked up a pair of victories over No. 24 Hobart and Denison to improve to 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at the United States Naval Academy.
GW (5-0) downed Hobart, 9-0, in the first match of the day before dispatching Denison, 9-0, in the nightcap.
Against Hobart, the Colonials used straight-sets victories from junior Andres de Frutos (No. 3), senior Reid Breck (No. 6) and sophomore John Bassett (No. 9).
Freshman Moudy Abdel-Maksoud rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win, 7-11, 2-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-2 over Josh Oakley at No. 1.
Three other Colonials also rallied from early deficits to earn wins. Sophomore Oisin Logan picked up a 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-2 victory over Beau Orchard at No. 2. Junior Josh Marks won 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-6 over Jack Shannon at No. 7 and sophomore Omar Mussehl rallied for a 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win over Danny Cabrera at No. 8.
Sophomore Juan Pablo Mejia (11-4, 11-8, 12-14, 11-7 at No. 5) and senior James Reiss (11-4, 6-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9 at No. 4) also earned wins to contribute to the shutout.
The Colonials won seven of nine matches in straight sets in the nightcap against Denison. De Frutos, Reiss, Mejia, Breck, Marks, Mussehl and Bassett all won in three sets.
Logan was challenged in a back-and-forth battle at No. 2 before prevailing over Sherief Shahin, 6-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 11-3.
Abdel-Maksoud dropped the first set against Ziad Elmandouh in extra points before rallying for a 10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 11-1 win.
GW will host No. 7 Penn on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at Lerner Health & Wellness Center.
